Downtown’s most popular outdoor music venue will continue to host local and national acts now that a nearly two year long dispute between the Athenaeum Foundation and The Rathskeller operator Dan McMichael has been resolved. Moving forward, each party has agreed to withdraw and dismiss their pending claims against each other.
What does this mean? It means The Rathskeller will continue to operate as it has been, however, 50% of the gross cover charge from events in the Biergarten will go to The Athenaem Foundation and Dan McMichael, operator of the The Rathskeller, will also host a fundraiser that will help offset costs identified by the Athenaeum Foundation. The Athenaeum Foundation owns the historic building, the name, The Rathskeller, and the facility’s liquor license.
“It was crucial to resolve this to ensure that the city could continue to enjoy The Rathskeller that they have come to know and love – including the Biergarten, which we fought hard to save,” said McMichael. “The Biergarten fuels all aspects of The Rathskeller. This agreement ensures the future vitality of all of our different business areas.”
