Lead singer of Third Day, Mac Powell, will be performing live at Deluxe at Old National Centre on Friday, September 21st, 2012 along with his band, The Backsliders. Powell, front man of the multi-platinum selling, four-time GRAMMY and American Music Award winning rock band Third Day, released his solo self-titled debut country music album on August 21, 2012.
Both of Powell’s parents were very musically inclined so it wasn’t a surprise Powell began his love for music at a young age. In his hometown of Clanton, Alabama, Powell began singing gospel in his Baptist Church and learning the country twang at night with his father’s collection of Allman Brothers, Lyndyrd Skynyrd and Willie Nelson. After a move to Georgia while in high school, Powell found the perfect opportunity to share his love for music and his passion for his faith; Third Day. Third Day became a very popular gospel rock band, earning 4 Grammy awards and selling millions of albums. Mac Powell, for many years, dreamed of completing a country album and saw the perfect opportunity to complete this career dream while his original band, Third Day, was taking a break from touring. Mac Powell & the Backsliders released the country legend inspired album in August 2012 and are currently on tour performing their hit songs, “June Bug” and “Sweet Georgia Girl”.
