The Indianapolis Zoo will celebrate all moms — two-legged, four-legged, finned and flippered — during the third-annual Mother’s Day Weekend. Instead of just one day, the Zoo will honor these amazing females all weekend long with fun activities, special offers, Mother’s Day-themed animal chats and more, all happening from 9am to 5pm, May 10 and 11.
The Mother’s Day recognitions will start with a special “proud mom” sticker that all human mothers will get as they enter the Zoo, and they can also receive a free Mother’s Day cupcake at Café on the Commons.
Everyone can get in on the fun of the Zoo-wide scavenger hunt. Adventure seekers can follow the clues to discover several Zoo mothers along with interesting animal facts during their hunt, like the fact that an elephant carries her calf for 22 months before giving birth! Those who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a special gift in the White River Gardens Gift Shop.
Even the animal keepers chats will get a mommy makeover, with fun stories and information about the matriarchs of the Zoo family.
New moms will also want to check out the Nursing Mom’s Nest presented by Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. Centrally located in Encounters, this beautiful space offers a private place for moms to care for and breastfeed their babies.
To help moms remember their special day, guests can snap fun photos at the Mother’s Day photo ops located throughout the Zoo. Little ones can also show their love for the women in their lives before and after their Zoo visit by completing the Mother’s Day coloring sheets available on the Zoo’s website.
Mother’s Day Weekend activities are free for Zoo members and included with regular Zoo admission. Guests are encouraged to save time and money on their Zoo visit by purchasing tickets online at IndianapolisZoo.com.
