Each year the IMPD Downtown District hosts a Community Day to highlight safety and prevention issues by showcasing information from several vendors including the IMPD Bicycle Unit, Indiana State Police, Indianapolis Fire Department, Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Emergency Medical Services, FBI, Marion County Crime Lab, Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders and many more.
Attendees will be able to get free food samples from the following establishments: Deep Pocket Foods, Dick’s Last Resort, Elbow Room Pub, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Hardee’s, Greek Islands Restaurant, Harry & Izzy’s, Hooter’s, Palomino, Starbucks at the Omni Severin, Tilted Kilt Pub, Wyliepalooza’s Ice Cream Emporium and others.
New this year will be the IMPD vs. IFD (Indianapolis Fire Department) rib cook-off. Each team will use Weber Grills to smoke and showcase their version of the perfect rib. The public will then be able to vote for which team created the tastiest rib.
For the third year, local celebrities and an IMPD officer will compete in a donut-eating contest held at 12:30 p.m. Contestants will have three minutes to eat as many donuts as possible.
IMPD’s 2014 Downtown District Community Day takes place on Thursday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Georgia Street (center block between Illinois and Meridian Streets).
