The Indianapolis Department of Public Works today announced the rehabilitation of the Lafayette Road Bridge over CSX Railroad. The bridge, originally built in 1962 and repaired in 1998, has deteriorated and is in poor condition.
Given the high volume of traffic and scale of the work, the bridge will be closed during construction beginning on or after July 28, 2014. The project is expected to be complete by July 31, 2015.
The project improvements include total bridge reconstruction. A 6-foot wide raised concrete sidewalk will be installed along the north railing of the bridge as well as concrete bridge railings.
Traffic will be detoured as follows:
- W. 38th Street to Georgetown Road to E. 30th Street—and vice versa.
Traffic maintenance will also be coordinated with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for major events.
