As Sun King Brewery returns with their 2nd annual CANvitational bringing more than 40 breweries from across America to the Midwest’s largest canned beer event on Saturday, September 20, the public is invited to a special brewers reception on Friday, September 19 at 7 p.m. at the Indianapolis Artsgarden. Sponsored by Crown Beverage Packaging, CAN’d Art will feature local Indiana artists selected to create an original piece of 2D or 3D art by using cans from the different breweries represented at CANvitational.
As Sun King continues to be a driving force in its support of the arts community in Indianapolis, the growing craft brewery has worked to make individual artists a large part of this year’s event.
“The Arts Council of Indianapolis sincerely appreciates its partnership with Sun King. Their dedication and support to local arts groups and artists sets a remarkable precedent for other organizations,” said Shannon Linker, Director of Artist Services and Gallery 924. “Sun King is a proven supporter of the arts in part by purchasing local artists’ work for their own collection. This project is leading by example, encouraging and enabling other breweries to do the same.”
Local artists participating include Jake Lee, William Denton Ray, Lesley Baker, Carl Leck, Lydia Burris, Paula Aramendia Wright, Phil Velikan, Hector Del Campo and Kyle Rowe.
Each of the brewers will be present during the CAN’d Art event and are encouraged to purchase the artwork in order to begin building their own corporate art collection. Tickets are available at mokbpresents.com. All proceeds from the preview event and partial sale of the artwork go to the Arts Council of Indianapolis for programs that support professional artists in central Indiana.
