Adrian Sampson tossed seven scoreless innings, John Bowker homered for the second straight game and the Indianapolis Indians (52-36) salvaged the series finale with a 4-0 shutout of the Louisville Bats (43-45) Thursday at Slugger Field.
Sampson (7-7) snapped a four-decision losing streak with tonight’s win. He scattered five hits with three strikeouts for his first victory since the conclusion of a career-high six-game win streak on June 7.
Bowker plated a leadoff single in Pedro Florimon when he deposited his payoff pitch over the right-field wall in the top of the fifth inning. He hit just .151 through the opening game of the series, but is now 3-for-8 with three runs scored and three RBIs over his last two games.
Jeff Inman worked the eighth for the Indians and Blake Wood pitched the ninth to complete the shutout.
