On July 1, 2015, at approximately 3:26 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the 1200 block of West 29th Street on the report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male outside of a residence with a gunshot wound. This victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
At approximately 3:33 a.m., IMPD officers were subsequently dispatched to another person shot in the 1200 block of Eugene Street. Officers located a male outside of a residence that had been shot in the lower extremities. This victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
At this time, IMPD Homicide investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses and potential evidence. Investigators believe both victims were shot in the 1200 block of West 29th Street, and they are working to determine the relationship between the two victims. Investigators do not believe this to be a random act; however, the details surrounding the victim’s death are still under investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency arrived to process the crime scene and gather forensic evidence. The victim’s identity is not being released at this time, pending positive identification and family notifications. More information will be released once investigators have an opportunity to conclude their investigation at the crime scene.
