Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are investigating a shooting that has killed one man and injured another.
Just before 1:00 a.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Oxford Lane on the report a person had been shot. When officers arrived, inside an apartment officers found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand and his uninjured girlfriend. Moments later officers were informed that a related male showed up at Community East Hospital suffering numerous gunshot wounds. Despite best life-saving efforts of medical staff at the hospital, the male victim was pronounced deceased.
Preliminarily investigators believe that the two men got into an altercation, during which one of the men was shot numerous times, and the other was shot in the hand. Before officers arrived, the male shot numerous times was taken to Community East Hospital. The second man was taken by EMS personnel to IU Health Methodist Hospital in good condition. Detectives have detained individuals for questioning, but at this time, no arrest have occurred. Inside the apartment, officers also located illegal narcotic evidence.
The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is processing the scene for forensic evidence. The deceased man’s name will be released once next-of-kind has been notified. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS.
