Tyler Glasnow and Josh Bell will represent the Indianapolis Indians in the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 13 in Charlotte, N.C. The International League roster was announced Wednesday by the league office.
Glasnow, a right-handed pitcher, was rated the Pirates’ No. 1 prospect and No. 14 overall by Baseball America entering the 2016 campaign. This season he’s gone 7-2 with a 1.70 ERA for the Indians, including a recent run of 13 hitless and 20 scoreless consecutive innings streaks. In June, the 6’ 8” hurler has allowed three earned runs in 34 innings to compile a 0.79 ERA. He leads the IL in strikeouts (105) and is second in ERA (1.70).
Bell, a first baseman, is among the top hitters in the International League. He is the league’s active leader in batting average at .316 with Adam Frazier departing for Pittsburgh on June 24. The switch-hitter is also among the IL’s top hitters in RBIs (2nd, 47), OBP (3rd, .402), and slugging percentage (3rd, .521). Baseball America rated him the Pirates’ No. 2 prospect and 38th overall to begin the season.
Thirteen of the 30 roster slots were determined by an equal combination of fan, field staff, and media voting. The remaining 17 openings were awarded by the International League office.
The International League squad will be opposed by the Pacific Coast League’s top performers. The IL has claimed six of the last seven meetings. Columbus’ Chris Tremie will manage the IL club.
The game will be broadcast live on MLB Network, American Forces Network, MiLB.TV and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
