Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide detectives are investigating after an adult male is found dead after suffering several gunshot wounds.
Just after 5:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of Primrose Avenue reference shots fired in the area. Responding officers observed a suspicious man in the area, and after initially cooperating the male decide to run from police detention. The man fled from officers and after a brief fight with officers, he was apprehended a block over from the original call. Almost simultaneously a second 9-1-1 call was received that indicated a person had been shot back over on Primrose Avenue. Officers responded to that location and found 32-year-old Jason Byrd of Indianapolis unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS crews pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
Detectives have not yet determined if the person who fled from officers on the original shots fired run is involved in the criminal homicide or was just in the area. The apprehended male subject was transported to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital for observation after suffering a non-descriptive medical episode not believed to be life-threatening. Detectives have not yet released the apprehended male’s name. Detectives canvassed the area looking for additional information. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency will process the crime scene for forensic evidence, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to take control of the deceased. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 or TIPS. Information shared via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
