Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives have identified and charged a suspect for allegedly murdering 27-year-old Joshua Thomas, back on September 25, 2015.
The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Cory Woody of Indianapolis. Woody is currently being held in the Department of Corrections on unrelated charges. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has screened the case with detectives and Woody will be facing the following charges:
Count I) Murder
Count II) Felony Murder
Count III) Robbery resulting in Serious Bodily Injury – Level 2 Felony.
IMPD homicide detectives work continuously to resolve cases like this one, in an effort to hold suspects accountable and bring a sense of closure to the victim’s families. INDIANAPOLIS – On September 25, 2015 at around 11:46 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 4700 block of Crestview Avenue on the report of a suspicious vehicle parked on the street. The 911 caller indicated they heard “popping” noises coming from inside of the vehicle. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound inside of an SUV. EMS officials arrived a short time later and pronounced the victim deceased.
At this time, IMPD Homicide investigators are interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area for potential evidence. Investigators do not believe this to be a random act; however, the details surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency arrived to process the crime scene and gather forensic evidence.
