Honor and tradition are two words those familiar with the annual Indianapolis Speedrome schedule will recognize. The 2017 campaign will find a few new events gracing the calendar. One of those honors the late Mike Greig Sr. This inaugural tribute race is set for Saturday night June 24th. The evening also includes oval action for the Late Models, Thundercars, Factory Front Wheel Drives, Adult Faskarts, and the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series.
The 1st Annual Mike Greig Memorial Late Model Figure 8 will be 50-laps representing the distance of most big events back in the days of Sonny Thompson and Billy Arnold. An era that Mr. Greig learned his craft. Mike was an honored family man and well respected friend to the Speedrome racing nation for many decades. He was a mechanic and engine builder for many, but most notably a mentor for son Doug and granddaughter Kimmie.
“I was speechless at the Speedrome banquet when my father’s race was announced”, stated Doug Greig. “For the new ownership to honor him is truly something that I will never forget. I thank them so much”. Expect a large turnout on and off the track for this special night. Mike will also have an award named after him beginning in 2017. This prize will go to the top crew chief in the Speedrome Stock division.
