Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) North District Narcotics and Flex units with the assistance of IMPD’s East District Narcotics, Interdiction, and Violent Crimes units conducted a day-long narcotics investigation focused on a 42-year-old man suspected of drug trafficking.
Narcotics detectives received reliable information and after months of surveillance confirmed that the suspect later identified as Samuel Nelson III, was trafficking large amounts of illegal drugs in the Indianapolis community. On 1/26/17 detectives observed the suspect exiting a house in the 3700 block of Dequincy Street transporting what detectives believed to be suspected illegal drugs.
Once the suspect was seen leaving the house and getting into a vehicle, detectives conducted an investigative traffic stop. During the stop, narcotics detectives requested the assistance of a narcotics K-9 which indicated the likely presence of possible illegal narcotics within the vehicle. During the traffic stop, the suspect was found to be in possession of one-quarter pound (1/4) of uncut methamphetamine and a shotgun. In furtherance of the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the house, 3700 Dequincy St, where the suspect was seen leaving just before the traffic stop. Once inside, detectives recovered more methamphetamine that amounted to three-quarters (2.75lbs) of uncut methamphetamine.
Upon further investigation, detectives were also led to a home in the city of Brownsburg, believed to be the suspect’s primary residence, where detectives recovered approximately $25,000 in cash, and a vehicle believed used and/or purchased in the furtherance of the suspect’s drug trafficking enterprise.
A total of three pounds of (3lbs) of uncut methamphetamine, one 12 gauge shotgun and approximately $26,000.00 in cash were all seized by detectives. The suspect was subsequently arrested and preliminarily charged with dealing in methamphetamine, and possession of methamphetamine. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the investigative facts of this case and make a charging decision.
