Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives are investigating after a man succumbs to injuries sustained after being shot during a disturbance on the city’s east side earlier today.
Just after 10:30 a.m. on 02/15/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 2300 block of N Dearborn St on reports of a person shot. Responding officers located two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. EMS personnel responded and transported both males to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. One male, identified as 28-year-old John Jones, later succumbed to his injuries.
Aggravated Assault and Homicide detectives responded and began investigating. Detectives learned that there was a disturbance between Jones and another male, when Jones allegedly shot the male he was arguing with. Another subject nearby then shot Jones. The other subject was questioned and released. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will be consulted with as the investigation continues.
The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting possible forensic evidence.
