Just after 7 p.m. on 01/13/2017, officers with the IMPD and Lawrence Police Department (LPD) were dispatched on reports of a person struck in the 7300 block of Pendleton Pike. Responding officers located an unresponsive male lying in the roadway. EMS personnel responded and transported the victim to Methodist Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Investigators were able to identify the victim as 52-year-old Brian Wilkinson of Anderson, IN.
Accident investigators responded to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. Local media outlets covered the incident and investigators then began receiving additional details about the accident. Those tips led to the identification of a suspect. Investigators filed for and were granted an arrest warrant for 30-year-old Brittney Jones on 02/03/2017, for her alleged involvement in the accident. Jones was later arrested on 02/09/2017 and preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death. She was later transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for booking. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
