Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department SWAT Officers have taken two juvenile suspects into custody. Both suspects are believed connected to the overnight shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead.
Just before 5:00 a.m. today (2/3/17) detectives developed information that two juvenile suspects believed involved in the overnight shooting were inside a house in the 3500 Redwood Drive on the city’s south side. Detectives arrived at the house and quickly determined multiple individuals were inside. After removing all the uninvolved individuals (4 adults, 1 toddler, and 1 infant), detectives attempted to get the two juvenile suspects to come out and peacefully surrender – those attempts failed.
After about a 2.5-hour standoff, SWAT Officers deployed a diversionary device and Tear Gas into the house, and after several minutes both suspects emerged and were taken into custody without further incident. Detectives transported both teens down to the IMPD Headquarters to be questioned reference their involvement in the homicide incident. Detectives have not yet made public specific circumstances but believe the likely motive was drugs. During the course of this standoff there was no immediate danger to the surrounding neighborhoods or communities.
The name of the victim can be obtained from our friends at the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
