Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Downtown District detectives coordinate with officers to make a traffic stop after spotting suspect vehicle allegedly involved in numerous vehicle break-ins.
Just before 8 p.m. on 02/01/2017, IMPD detectives were conducting surveillance in the 100 block of S. College Ave when they spotted a vehicle suspected of being involved in vehicle break-ins in the area. The suspect vehicle began to drive through multiple parking lots throughout the city. Inside the suspect vehicle were two suspects, later identified as 25-year-old Brandon Crawford and 39-year-old Nathaniel Davis.
The suspects travelled along North Shadeland Ave stopping at the Jimmy John’s Restaurant at 21st Street. Once there, the suspects allegedly broke into an employee’s car stealing a computer laptop bag with no contents (PD17012069). The suspects proceeded to the area of East 21st Street and North Post Road, peering into vehicle windows. The suspects then drove back to Shadeland Ave, doing the same thing in multiple lots along North Shadeland Ave, before driving to East 9th Street and North Dorman Ave. Once there, the suspects allegedly broke into another vehicle, stealing a book bag containing a laptop (PD17012130). As officers were confirming the theft, the suspects drove to the 100 block of S College Ave, allegedly breaking into yet another vehicle, stealing a book bag containing a laptop and IPad (PD17012143).
The suspects then immediately went to the area of West 10th Street and Indiana Ave and began driving through parking lots. Officers Walters, Harper, and Sgt. Gregory began to coordinate with detectives to safely conduct a traffic stop on the suspects. When the suspect vehicle stopped at a gas station at 16th Street and Kessler Ave, officers converged and took them into custody without incident. Detectives recovered the stolen items, returning them to their proper owners.
Brandon Crawford and Nathaniel Davis were arrested and preliminarily charged with multiple counts of theft from a motor vehicle and criminal mischief. They were later transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for booking. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
This is another example of the diligence that the men and women of the IMPD possess, in their duties and in service to their community. The IMPD would like to thank the community for their ongoing support in helping to make Indianapolis a safer place to work and live. If anyone has information about illegal activity, please contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477). Information given via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
