Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responding to reports of armed robberies Monday on the city’s northeast side found a man in an apartment stairwell who had been shot. The victim told police he was shot after he was approached by two men who asked for a cigarette. When he told them he didn’t have any, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the victim as he ran toward his apartment. The suspects took cash and his cell phone and left. The victim was taken to Eskenazi in stable condition.
While investigating this shooting, detectives were able to determine there were at least two other armed robberies believed to have involved the same suspects. That determination was made due to the similar description provided of the two suspects and the timing of the incidents.
A traffic stop by East district officers of the suspected robbers led to their arrest, along with a third man also believed to be connected to the robberies. The men were positively identified as suspects in two of the armed robberies. Inside the vehicle were items potentially linked to the crimes.
The suspects names are not being released at this time, additional information will be released as it is made available.
