Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Northwest District Narcotics detectives and uniformed officers worked together on a traffic stop that resulted in the confiscation of 19 grams of suspected crack cocaine and two arrests.
At approximately 1 p.m. on 02/09/ 2017, Northwest District Narcotics detectives observed a white Chevrolet Suburban commit a traffic infraction in the 3100 block of MLK. Detectives asked for a marked police car to stop the vehicle. The assisting officers pulled over the Chevy just North of the MLK/West Street exit on I-65 South. When officers approached the vehicle they could smell an odor of what they believed to be marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was identified as 34-year-old Derek Blue and the passenger was identified as 45-year-old Tyrone Anderson. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 19 grams of suspected crack cocaine and a digital scale. A search of both suspects incident to arrest led to the discovery of a small amount of marijuana and $743 dollars in US currency.
Blue was preliminarily charged with dealing cocaine and possession of cocaine. Anderson was preliminarily charged with dealing cocaine, possession of cocaine, and possession of marijuana. They were later transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for booking. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a final charging decision. The 2003 Chevrolet Suburban and $743 dollars in cash were seized and put in for forfeiture proceedings.
