Chief of Police Bryan Roach is recommending to the Police Merit Board they terminate the employment of Officer Corey Heiny with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).
Officer Heiny has been formally charged by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office with Battery, Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, and Criminal Mischief, all misdemeanor charges for an incident that happened on Friday, March 17, 2017, while Officer Heiny was off-duty.
After a thorough investigation by IMPD, investigators from IMPD’s Special Investigation Unit presented their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office who made a charging decision.
“The actions of this officer are unacceptable and do not reflect the professionalism and dedication of the men and women of IMPD,” said Chief Roach.
Officer Heiny has been employed with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department since 2010 and was assigned to East District, and has been suspended without pay pending termination. Officer Heiny’s police issued equipment was confiscated and his police powers were suspended shortly after the incident occurred.
