Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Accident Investigators were called out to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle accident on Washington St near Holt Rd.
Just after 6:20 p.m. on 03/07/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to W Washington St at Holt Rd on reports of a personal injury accident involving two vehicles. Responding officers located the accident between a red pickup truck and tan sedan, one block west at McClure and Washington St. The driver of the sedan was unresponsive and the pickup driver appeared to have suffered serious injury. EMS personnel responded and transported both drivers to Eskenazi Hospital, where the driver of the sedan was pronounced dead.
Accident investigators responded and began canvassing the area. Initial reports indicate that the tan sedan was turning left off of McClure to go west on Washington St. It is believed that the driver’s view may have been obstructed by the setting sun. The red pickup truck was east on Washington St and was unable to avoid striking the sedan. The driver of the pickup will be subjected to a blood draw, as is standard procedure for a fatal accident.
The name of the deceased male will be made available through the Marion County Coroner’s Office once proper next-of-kin notification has been made. Motorists are reminded to take extra care driving when low visibility conditions exist. If your view is obstructed, don’t drive or seek an alternate route. Anyone with information about this incident or others can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477).
