Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) homicide detectives are investigating after a man dies from injuries he sustained after being shot.
On Friday, March 31, 2017, just before 8:00 p.m., Southwest District officers with IMPD responded to the 900 block of Pershing Avenue in reference to a 9-1-1 call reference a person shot. Officers arrived and found 31-year-old Derris Mack of Indianapolis suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital by EMS personnel in serious condition. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals the victim later died while at the hospital.
Detectives are following up on several leads and information obtained from witnesses, but have not yet made public information about possible suspects or possible reasons for the shooting. However, this shooting is not believed to a random act of violence. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency processed the scene for forensics evidence that could aid investigators. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine a cause and manner of death after they perform an autopsy. No other injuries were reported.
