Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) partner with FBI Violent Crimes Task Force to apprehend four robbery suspects who had allegedly victimized cell phone stores in Indiana and a Verizon store in Ohio. The details of the Indianapolis cases are below:
PD17019956 – 404 E Thompson Rd
Just before 2 p.m. on 02/19/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the Sprint store located in the 400 block of E Thompson Rd, on reports of a robbery that had just occurred. Responding officers met with the complainant who advised that an armed suspect entered the store and stole numerous cell phones before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.
PD17022758 – 3638 S East St
Just before 11:30 a.m. on 02/27/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to Radio Shack located in the 3600 block of S East St, on reports of a robbery that had just occurred. Responding officers met with the complainant who advised that an armed suspect entered the store and stole numerous cell phones before fleeing.
PD17024915 – 4060 Pendleton Way
Just before 7:30 p.m. on 03/04/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the Sprint store in the 4000 block of Pendleton Way, on reports of a robbery that had just occurred. Responding officers met with the complainant who advised that two suspects, one of them armed, entered the store and stole numerous cell phones. While in the store, one of the victim’s had a firearm. The suspects struggled to gain control of the victim’s firearm and a shot was fired. The suspects got control of the victim’s firearm and took it with them as they fled to a waiting vehicle.
The IMPD Robbery Coordination Unit along with FBI Violent Crimes Task Force began investigating the above cases and identifying similarities. Through the use of tried and proven investigative techniques, they were able to identify the suspects. The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force were also able to determine that the suspects were allegedly involved in an armed robbery of a Verizon store in Troy, OH.
Indiana State Troopers from ISP stopped the suspects and all suspects were taken into custody without incident. A rifle, handgun and numerous cell phones were later found during the traffic stop with the suspects.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Christopher Davis, 26-year-old Kashawn Morrow, 27-year-old Darrin Bell, and 25-year-old David McGhee. All suspects were transported to the IMPD Robbery Office were they were interviewed and later transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for booking.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis agreed to prosecute the case and FBI Violent Crimes Task Force agents arrested all four suspects on federal charges.
The IMPD would like to thank our Federal, State, and local partners, as well as those out of the state of Ohio who partnered in this investigation, to take four robbery suspects off the streets. It is through thoughtful collaboration in cases like these where we can find that justice is served for all who are affected from such crimes.
