Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting on the city’s Northwest side.
Just after 7:00 p.m., on April 9, 2017, officers with IMPD were dispatched to the 2300 Block of N. Raceway Road on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived they located an adult female who appeared to be suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
Officers called for the assistance of Indianapolis EMS personnel who responded to the scene. The female ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at that scene. Homicide detectives responded and began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist with identifying and collecting possible forensic evidence. At this time, detectives believe this shooting is accidental, the person involved along with other witnesses were transported to the Homicide Office for questioning. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will make identification after next of kin has been notified.
