INDIANAPOLIS – Investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating after a female is struck and killed on S. Emerson Ave. on the city’s south side.
Just before 4:00 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the intersection of South Emerson Ave and East Flintstone Drive reference a fatal accident. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive female victim who was unfortunately pronounced dead by responding EMS personnel. The victim’s identity should be obtained from the Marion County Corner’s Office once they have positively identified and made notification to the victim’s next-of-kin.
Preliminarily, investigators believe that the female victim was standing in the roadway asking a driver of an uninvolved driver for directions. As they were having a conversation a van in traveling north in the center lane of Emerson Ave passed the stopped vehicle and struck the female. The driver of the van remained at the scene and is cooperation with investigators. The driver of the van will be offered a standard blood draw to test his blood for intoxicants, but at the scene, there is no indication of intoxicants. At this time, investigators have not provided any other contributing factors to the crash.
