TRIBE NOTES
DANNY-O LOCKING IN: After batting .138 (4-for-29) through his first eight games, Danny Ortiz has turned it on at the dish with a .467 average (7- for-15) over his last four games, backed by a three-hit effort yesterday, his first of the season. In 2016, Ortiz racked up four three-hit performances.
LEADOFF JACKS: Max Moroff’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the first yesterday made him the first Tribe player with two leadoff jacks in a single season since Kevin Melillo in 2010. In 2009, Andrew McCutchen belted two leadoff home runs, and Brian Bixler mashed three that season as well. Since 2005, Moroff is one of five Indians players with multiple leadoff bombs (Bixler – 3, McCutchen – 2, Melillo – 2, Alen Hanson – 2 [1 in 2015 & 2016]).
TWO-PLUS DINGERS: Indianapolis tallied two-plus homers as a team in a single game for the second time in 2017 after Moroff and Rogers both homered yesterday. On Opening Night against Toledo, Moroff, Rogers and Gift Ngoepe and all homered in a 7-4 win over the Mud Hens.
ROGERS’ NEIGHBORHOOD: Jason Rogers pushed his hitting streak to six games with his 2-for-4 performance yesterday afternoon. During the stretch, he’s batting .429 (9-for-21) with two homers, one triple, and five RBI. He’s walked three times and struck out just four times as well during the run.
