TRIBE NOTES
NGOEPE SWINGIN’ IT: Gift Ngoepe has been the one constant producer for the Indians so far this season. After batting .429 (18-for-42) for the Pirates in spring training, he’s carried his success into the regular season for Indianapolis, batting .421 (8-for-19) through five games. He’s racked up four extra-base hits while continuing his stellar work defensively, primarily at shortstop.
APRIL 10 VS. COLUMBUS: After falling 1-0 in 11 innings last night, the Tribe have now been shut out by the Clippers on April 10 over each of the last three seasons. Last year, Mike Clevinger outdueled Tyler Glasnow and the Indians in a 1-0 shutout at Huntington Park. In 2015, Danny Salazar bested Adrian Sampson and the Tribe in a 3-0 triumph at Victory Field.
EXTRA-INNING BITS: After going 7-9 in extra innings in 2016, the Tribe lost their first extra-inning game last night. Since 2005, the Indians own an 83-79 record in extras. In 2013, Indy posted a 16-7 record in extra innings. Its worst record in extras since ’05 came in 2008 when the team went 1-9.
