NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard has suspended its search for the person in the water approximately 157 nautical miles off of Pensacola, Florida, Thursday.
The search was suspended at 7:16 p.m. after searching a total of 434 square nautical miles.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report from the cruise ship Carnival Fantasy at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday of a man with dark hair, wearing a red shirt, and seen facedown in the water.
A passenger aboard the cruise ship initially spotted the man and alerted crewmembers. The cruise ship conducted searches in the area for approximately two hours.
Involved in the search was an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile.
