Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives have made an arrest in the murder of 32-year-old Joseph Goodin, that occurred in the 5900 block of Bertha St on May 5, 2017.
23-year-old Derrick Walbert has been arrested and preliminarily charged with Murder, in the shooting death of Joseph Goodin. The incident occurred in the attached garage of a residence in the 5900 block of Bertha St. When officers arrived, other subjects on the scene had Walbert detained. During the course of the investigation, Walbert allegedly admitted to Homicide detectives that he shot the victim.
Walbert was later transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for booking. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477).

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives conducting a death investigation after man dies from apparent gunshot wound.
Just after 5:30 p.m. on 05/05/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 5900 block of Bertha St on reports of a person shot. Responding officers located an unresponsive 32-year-old male who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead on-scene. One person was detained and witnesses were also located for interviews.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and will be conducting interviews. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The name of the deceased will be made available through the Marion County Coroner, after proper next-of-kin notification has been made. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
