On May 5, 2017, just after 3:45 p.m., SWAT officers made a dynamic entry inside the house. As SWAT officers were entering the house, a male subject was observed by SWAT team members diving out of the back window of the residence and running east through the yards. After a short pursuit, the subject was apprehended by uniformed officers a couple blocks away and brought back to the target residence. 38-year-old Desmond Scruggs was the subject identified and also the target of the investigation.
Detectives seized the following items from the house:
• 2 handguns
• Drug paraphernalia and packaging materials
• 1/2 ounce of suspected cocaine
• Digital scales with cocaine residue
• 1 tablet of hydrocodone
• 7 tablets of oxycodone
• 4 tablets of methadone
• 1.1181 grams of marijuana
• 1.1755 grams of concentrated THC wax
• $4,824 dollars of U.S. Currency
When interviewed, he stated that the guns and the property inside the residence belonged to him. He also admitted to knowing that he was not allowed to have guns due to being a serious violent felon. Scruggs has been identified as a known gang member. He has prior convictions for Criminal Confinement, Armed Robbery, Possession of Narcotics x2, Domestic Battery, and Trespass. Scruggs was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Resisting Law Enforcement by Fleeing, Possession Of Marijuana, Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent, Dealing Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine, and Dealing in a Controlled Substance. He was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center to be processed. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the investigative findings to make a charging decision.
