Just after 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2016, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the intersections of 10th Street and Drexel Avenue reference a disturbance. When officers arrived, they ran a warrant wanted check on a 24-year-old Jacque Renode who was wanted out of Cleveland, Ohio stabbing a 14-year-old to death and later shooting and injuring a 13-year-old.
After being taken into custody, the suspect fled on foot from officers. Officers eventually lost sight of the suspect but never gave up and established a perimeter. With the assistance of IMPD K-9 Officer and his partner, the fugitive was tracked to the 900 block of North Bosart Avenue where he was found attempting to hide on a rooftop. After repeated commands to surrender, and the suspect being sought for murder, officers used less-lethal bean bag rounds to get the suspect to comply. After deployment of the less-lethal rounds, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
IMPD is committed to apprehending violent suspects no matter geography. The suspect is currently being held at the Marion County Jail awaiting an extradition hearing.
