TRIBE NOTES
BOSTICK TO THE BIGS: Tribe INF/OF Christopher Bostick was recalled by Pittsburgh this afternoon, marking his first promotion to the major leagues. Bostick, 24, has played in 639 games over his seven-year career, which included stints in the Athletics and Nationals farm systems. Bostick, a 44th round selection by Oakland in the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft, accumulated 129 doubles, 41 triples, 51 home runs, 305 RBI and 110 stolen bases in the minors. This year, he was leading the Indians in batting (.320), and doubles (7) and was tied for the team lead in triples (2) and stolen bases (3). He also strung together a 15-game hitting streak, one shy of matching his career high.
MAJOR LEAGUE MAX: Tribe INF Max Moroff joined Bostick this afternoon in getting recalled to Pittsburgh. The 23-year-old returns to the big leagues in hopes of a longer stay; he played in two games last year for the Pirates, striking out each of his two big league at-bats. In 2017, Moroff displayed power from both sides of the plate for Indy, clubbing eight home runs in total, tied for the most in the IL. On Saturday at Columbus, he notched the first two-homer game of his career, blasting home runs from both sides of the plate in Indy’s 6-1 triumph. His eight home runs this season match his career high, accomplished in both 2016 and back in 2013 with Single-A West Virginia.
DIAZ RETURNS, JOINED BY GOSSELIN: To make room for Christopher Bostick and Max Moroff in the big leagues, the Pirates optioned catcher Elias Diaz and infielder Phil Gosselin back to Indianapolis. Diaz hit .222 (2-for-9) in four games, while Gosselin batted .138 (4-for-29) in 19 contests.
FIVER PITCH: The Indians have totaled 39 runs over their last six games, going 4-2 during that stretch. Both of their losses during the run came by a single tally in extra-inning affairs. The Indians have scored five-plus in each of their last six games, including a season-high nine on May 2 vs. Toledo. Indy hadn’t scored five-plus runs in six consecutive games since Aug. 4-9, 2015, when they did so during a six-game stretch at Durham and Norfolk.
WALK THIS WAY: Indians pitchers issued a season-high 11 walks in yesterday’s 5-4 win at Columbus. Cody Dickson, making his first career Triple-A start, issued five free passes. Brett McKinney (3), Pat Light (2) and Dovydas Neverauskas (1) each contributed as well. In the Victory Field era, the most walks issued by a Tribe team on the road was 12, and it came on Sept. 1, 2015, in a 10-6 loss at Louisville.
