TRIBE NOTES
LEADING OFF: Austin Meadows has found success in the leadoff spot, batting .320 (8-for-25) with three doubles and one RBI in five starts when hitting first. By comparison, he has hit .187 (14-for-75) when batting third and .200 (4-for-20) when in the five hole.
WELCOME BACK: The Indians welcomed Christopher Bostick and Max Moroff back into their lineup last night, and the two combined for five hits (three for extra bases), three RBI and two runs scored. Bostick became the first Tribe player this season to rack up four hits in a single game, while Moroff’s two-run homer in the fifth made him the only player in the IL with nine home runs this season.
BIRTHDAY BOMB: Max Moroff’s home run in the fifth came on his 24th birthday. Entering play yesterday, Moroff was 0-for-10 on his birthday. In 2013, he went 0-for-6 with a run scored for Single-A West Virginia. He did not play on his birthday in 2014 or 2015, and he finished 0-for- 4 on his birthday last year with Indy.
MOROFF STREAKING: Moroff enters play tonight riding a seven-game hitting streak in which he’s batted .400 (12-for-30) with four home runs and seven RBI. He’s also scored eight runs and walked five times during the stretch. He has homered in three of his last four games for Indy, including the first multi-homer game of his career on May 6 @ Columbus.
FEW AGAINST DREW: Hutchison twirled six innings of one-run ball last night, lowering his ERA to 3.86, the first time it’s been below 4.00 this season. Over his last two starts, the 26-year-old is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA (2 ER in 12.2 IP) and 10 strikeouts.
OFF AND RUNNING: Phil Gosselin, Erich Weiss and Jason Rogers each stole their first bases of the season last night. The three stolen bases matched a season-high output from the Tribe in a single game, as the Indians also swiped three bags in game one of a doubleheader on April 27 @ Pawtucket.
