Just after 4 am on April 19, 2017, IMPD officers responded to an armed robbery to the Franklin Quick Stop at 5630 S Franklin Rd. It was reported that two black males pointed a gun at the clerk and took about $1,500 in cash. A short time later, about 4:40 a.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to an attempted armed robbery to a Marathon Gas Station at 1638 S Shelby St. The suspects were unable to get any money as the clerk was behind bulletproof glass, but the description of the suspects matched that of the earlier robbery.
On April 21, 2017, IMPD detectives were notified by Whitestown Police Department that two men had robbed a Circle K and fired four shots at the clerk. The description of the suspects was similar to the ones given by witnesses to IMPD. Whitestown Police recovered .25 caliber shell casings and later submitted them to the FBI Crime Lab for processing.
IMPD detectives were later notified, on April 26, 2017, by Kirkwood Police (MO), St. Louis County Police (MO), Boonville Police (MO), Troy Police (IL), O’Fallon Police (IL) and Maryville Police (IL) that they all had similar robberies and were later determined to be committed by the same men.
On April 27, 2017, IMPD detectives were notified by the FBI that 23-year-old Victor Linton and 19-year-old Allen McCray were apprehended by Higginsville Police (MO) after they committed another robbery and shot the clerk 4 times. Prior to being arrested, Linton and McCray wrecked the stolen 2013 silver Hyundai Santa Fe that they drove to the scene. It is believed Linton and McCray traveled in the vehicle over the course of eight days, between April 13th –April 21st, to St. Louis, Chicago and Indianapolis before being taken into custody. The .25 caliber Colt semi-automatic handgun used and recovered in the Higginsville shooting matches the description of the gun used in Whiteland and Indianapolis. The Indianapolis and St. Louis branches of the FBI will be working together to bring federal charges against Linton and McCray.
