On May 20, 2017, just after 4:30 a.m., IMPD officers were called to the 5200 block of N. Keystone Avenue on a carjacking. The victim stated that he was at the gas station when he was robbed at gunpoint by three young males who took off his with his vehicle.
Just after 5:00 a.m., officers noticed the vehicle which fit the description of the stolen van in the area of E. 40th St. Officers checked the plates through BMV to ensure the vehicle was the one in question. The plate registration returned as the same vehicle which belonged to the victim. The officers attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver lead the officers on a vehicle pursuit.
During the course of the pursuit, the tailgate of the van opened and officers were able to see three occupants of the vehicle. The driver continued to evade the officers disregarding traffic signals, police lights, and sirens. The driver lost control of the van and crashed into a parked pickup truck south of 35th and Graceland Avenue. The driver attempted to run but was apprehended by an officer. All three of the males were taken into custody without further incident.
Officers and robbery detectives conducted a show-up of the alleged suspects and received a positive identification from the victim. All three suspects were identified as juvenile males. All three juveniles were arrested and transported to the Marion County Holding at Eskenazi Hospital. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a changing decision.
