Newton County – A garbage truck caused a back-up this morning after getting tangled in the guardrails on I-65, this morning.
At approximately 5:35 a.m., this Thursday, July 06, 2017, morning, Trooper William Carlson was dispatched to a single vehicle crash on I-65 at the 234-mile marker (this is just south of the Kankakee River). This area is also a construction zone with median work being done.
A 2005 Mack semi, owned by Illinois Bulk Carriers, was transporting garbage from Chicago, Illinois to a landfill in Monticello, Indiana. The driver, Theodore R. Johnson of University Park, Illinois was in the right lane when for unknown reasons ran off the roadway striking the outside guardrail, and then struck the guardrail a second time causing the semi’s right tractor tires to become lodged under the guardrail.
Johnson was not injured and there was no load loss at the scene.
The right lane was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours for removal of the semi; causing traffic to back up for several miles.
Assisting: ISP Sergeant Dwayne Dillahunty, Newton County Sheriff Department, and Village Motors
