Investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s (IMPD) Special Investigation Unit have arrested an off-duty IMPD Probationary Officer on allegations of domestic battery.
On Friday evening at approximately 11:30 p.m. an IMPD Sergeant was sent to the Marathon gas station at Thompson RD and Arlington Ave. reference an allegation of domestic violence that occurred earlier in the day at an undisclosed location. When it was discovered that one of the involved parties was an IMPD Probationary Officer, detectives from IMPD’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) were requested for further investigation. After being questioned by SIU investigators, Probationary Officer Christopher Charles was arrested and transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for processing on suspicion of Battery and Domestic Battery. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make a charging decision.
Probationary Officer Christopher Charles had been employed with IMPD since December 2015. After learning of the arrest, Chief Bryan Roach ordered the immediate confiscation of Christopher Charles’s issued police equipment, and Chief Roach intends to move forward with termination of Probationary Officer Charles’s employment from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in the coming days.
