FISHERS, IN – IKEA announced that its future Indianapolis-area store will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, in Fishers, IN, expanding its Midwestern United States presence. Customers can begin lining-up at the store on Monday, October 9, 2017 – 48 hours in advance of the doors’ opening on October 11 – and soon can learn of grand opening plans and promotions at IKEA-USA.com/Fishers or by joining the company’s free IKEA FAMILY loyalty program. IKEA Fishers will be the Swedish company’s first store in Indiana, and 45th in the U.S., with the closest stores: Cincinnati-area IKEA West Chester, OH; Chicago-area IKEA Bolingbrook and IKEA Schaumburg; or online at IKEA-USA.com.
“We are thrilled by the excellent construction progress made to date and believe we can complete the remaining milestones and interior build-up by mid-October. Besides furnishing our store, we also are focused on continuing recruitment and training of all the coworkers joining the IKEA family,” noted Holly Davidson, store manager of the future IKEA Fishers. “We look forward to introducing a whole new way of shopping for the home to customers from Central Indiana and beyond.”
The 289,000-square-foot future IKEA Fishers and its 1,000 parking spaces are being built on 35 acres along the eastern side of Interstate 69, just south of the E. 116th Street exit. The store will reflect the unique architectural design for which IKEA is known worldwide, and includes one of Indiana’s largest solar rooftops, consistent with the solar presence at 90% of IKEA U.S. locations.
IKEA Fishers will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 325-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes and more sustainable options. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store and preferred parking.
In addition to the more than 500 jobs created from construction, approximately 250 coworkers will have joined the IKEA family when the new store opens. Diverse positions at this employer of choice are still available in sales, customer service, cashiers, goods flow, receiving, warehouse and stock replenishment. Also, among its total coworkers, IKEA Fishers offers more than 50 food service opportunities in its Restaurant, Swedish Foodmarket, Café Bistro and coworker cafeteria.
