INDIANAPOLIS – Just before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were sent to the 6200 block of East 44th Place reference a person shot. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive person suffering from at least one gunshot wound lying in the front yard of a residence. Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis EMS arrived and pronounced the man dead. The man’s identity will not be released at this time to allow for the appropriate notification of his next-of-kin.
Detectives developed investigative information that led them to near-by house occupied with individuals that could have knowledge of the shooting. Because the high potential for one of those occupants to be armed and because of the specialty skill of the Crisis Negotiation and SWAT teams were deployed. Within minutes of the Crisis Negotiation Team deploying three individuals surrender without further incident. At the time of the release it is believed that a fourth individual may be in the house.
At the time of this release it is not known if any of the individuals are suspects, but detectives have transported the three down to the IMPD Headquarters for questioning. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death after an autopsy has been preformed. Should additional information become available this release may be updated.
