Indianapolis, IN – This morning, June 12, 2021, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Indiana State Police Dispatchers received an emergency call of a person struck by a semi on I-465 southbound at the 16.3 mile marker. When first responders arrived they located a semi stopped in the center lane of I-465 and an adult male lying in the roadway. The male lying in the roadway was unconscious and unresponsive, he was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists determined the male victim was in the roadway for unknown reasons when the southbound semi tractor-trailer struck him. The driver of the semi was not injured and is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Currently, investigators are trying to determine why the deceased male was crossing the roadway, there were no disabled vehicles located in the immediate area.
All lanes of I-465 southbound were temporarily closed for the investigation, those lanes have since re-opened. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time to allow for notification to the family. This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release at this time.
