At approximately 12:00 a.m. today, an officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed in the 1600 block of East Deloss Street. The officer conducted a routine Bureau of Motor Vehicle check and discovered that the vehicle was a stolen vehicle.
The officer initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle refused to comply with officer’s enforcement command and instead fled. The driver fled north on I-65 exiting at Washington Street. The driver then fled north on Pine Street onto Ohio Street where it dead-ends. The driver hit the curb and struck train tracks north of Ohio Street. The vehicle lost control and rolled over. After the vehicle finally came to a rest the driver climbed out of the vehicle and fled on foot. With the assistance of a IMPD K-9 Officer and his partner, the suspect was found hiding in a nearby shed. The suspect refused the K-9 Officers commands and was subsequently bitten by the K-9.
Upon further investigation of the vehicle, officers found both a male and female passenger who suffered minor cuts. All three occupants were transported to Eskenazi Health in good conditions. The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Corey Horton of Indianapolis. Officer believe that the driver may have been under the influence of some unknown illegal narcotic; therefore, after obtaining a warrant, the driver’s blood was submitted for testing. The suspect was arrested on preliminary charges of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Resisting Law Enforcement and Vehicle Theft.
