HAPPY TOGETHER TOUR: This summer, music fans will rejoice as the celebrated Happy Together Tour returns to their city featuring the best musical talent of the sixties and seventies. The 2016 tour will include six headline artists with a total of 59 Billboard hits amongst them.
38 SPECIAL: After more than three decades together, 38 Special continue to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. And at each and every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the band’s performance. Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse. With sales in excess of 20 million, most associate the band with their arena-rock pop smashes, “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl,” “If I’d Been the One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Chain Lightnin’,” “Second Chance,” and more – Timeless hits that remain a staple at radio, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord, and paving the way to their present-day touring regimen.
THE BACON BROTHERS: The Bacon Brothers are anything but a typical rock band. Brothers Michael and Kevin Bacon, each accomplished in their own right, play gritty rock that is unapologetically unique and authentic. Their style can best be described by their first album title, Forosoco, a word describing the blend of folk, rock, soul and country influences. Now, nearly 20 years later, The Bacon Brothers continue to impress audiences and critics with their soulful sound and their latest offering of Americana 36 Cents.
BLUES TRAVELER: After selling millions of records and logging thousands of miles on the road, GRAMMY award-winning band Blues Traveler continue to chart new musical directions evident on their upcoming record Blow Up The Moon. A clever collaboration between various artists, Blow Up The Moon sees Blues Traveler keep an open-minded perspective on making music and enlists an eclectic mix of songwriters influenced by the band’s remarkable 25+ year career. Some of Blues Traveler’s biggest hits include, “Hook,” “But Anyway,” “The Mountains Win Again,” and the mega-hit single “Runaround”.

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) will host a three-day design workshop May 2 – 4 as the final step in creating a new master plan to guide future development within the 120 acres of West Park to best meet the current and future needs of the community.
This workshop was preceded by a series of three community meetings earlier this year at which the public received an overview of the planning process and heard preliminary findings from the CCPR consulting team. The new master plan will incorporate and integrate designs for both the capital repair and replacement of existing infrastructure as well as expansion into 45 undeveloped acres.

National Bike to School Day is Wednesday, May 4, and the Indiana Safe Routes to School Partnership and Health by Design are encouraging schools and parents statewide to take part. More than 45 schools participated last year, and organizers hope to see that number increase this year.
Despite evidence that walking and biking provides physical benefits – as well as reduces neighborhood traffic congestion, household costs and auto emissions – the vast majority of students arrive at school in a vehicle.
In fact, within the span of one generation, the percentage of children walking or bicycling to school has dropped precipitously, from approximately 50 percent in 1969 to just 13 percent in 2009.
“Bike to School Day is an opportunity to increase the visibility of bicycling and emphasize the benefits of healthy transportation options – like walking and biking – for youth and families,” said Kim Irwin, who coordinates Health by Design and the Indiana Safe Routes to School Partnership.
“We loving seeing entire communities – school staff, public officials, parent teacher organizations, law enforcement and community leaders – take part.”
Indiana school communities may register for the May 4 event on the national website, www.walkbiketoschool.org. So far, participating Indiana schools are in Carmel, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Logansport, Mackey, Westfield and Zionsville.
While National Bike to School day is a designated date each May, schools and communities are encouraged to organize walk and bike to school events throughout the year. Get tips on how to organize an event at www.walkbiketoschool.org.
The Indiana Safe Routes to School Partnership works to increase the number of children safely walking and biking to school throughout the state by sharing information, resources, technical assistance and ideas. It is a collaborative effort spearheaded by Health by Design and comprised of government, community, health and education organizations. For more information, visit www.healthbydesignonline.org.

The Indianapolis Zoo’s annual “en plein air” (outdoors) event, Naturally Inspired Paint Out, is April 23 and features 15 juried artists creating extraordinary art inspired by the stunning natural surroundings at the Zoo and White River Gardens. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to see through the artists’ eyes as blank canvases and hunks of clay are transformed into one-of-a-kind artworks.
New this year, guests can enjoy free, hands-on guided art activities at 11am and 1pm at the ring-tailed lemur exhibit, led by graduate students from the Herron School of Art + Design at IUPUI. Plus, children ages 8-12 can show their own creativity at the Members’ Only Junior Paint Out. From 9am-noon, these budding artists will create both individual and group artworks. The cost for the Junior Paint Out is $30 per child and reservations are required. All other Paint Out Day activities are free for members and included with regular admission.
After the artworks have dried, they — along with pieces created by some of the Zoo’s artistically inclined animals — will be professionally framed by The Great Frame Up Broad Ripple & Downtown before going on display from June 1-Aug. 24 in the Schaefer Rotunda at the Gardens.
Zoo patrons will have the chance to own their favorite artworks when they go up for bid at the Naturally Inspired Silent Auction and Artists’ Reception from 5:30-7pm Aug. 25 in the Hulman Riverhouse. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and wine as they visit with the talented Paint Out artists. Tickets for the silent auction and reception are $12.95 for Zoo members and their guests and $18.95 for non-members. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 317-630-2046. Proceeds from the auction support the Zoo’s conservation mission.

Mike Pence (R) & Joe Hogsett (D) threw out pitches at the Indianapolis Indians 2016 Home Opener on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Victory Field. This is not unusual for sitting Indiana Governors & Indianapolis Mayors to do.
However, this time Indiana Governor Mike Pence was greeted to both cheers & jeers. The major local Indianapolis media outlets, being a bit slanted towards one political side, got a hold of a video clip from the stands where it sounds like nothing but the governor being booed, which was not the case. Yes, Mike Pence was booed, but he also had his supporters there as well. For the record, the Mayor seemed pretty well received in his first appearance.
Typically we don’t get political on Naptown Buzz, because frankly the only thing we care about is that you do vote. But in this case we felt the need to present you with a different perspective directly from the field. When listening to the audio, note that the very loud clapping you’ll hear for both the Mayor and the Governor is First Lady, Karen Pence. The rest of the cheers, jeers & boos are from the audience in the stands.
