2011 Indiana State Fair’s Signature Foods
Deep-fried ice cream
Baskin Robbins’ deep-fried ice cream has been selected as the Indiana State Fair’s Signature Food for 2011. Baskin Robbins vendors Bob and Ivy Walsh of Muncie submitted the winning entry and will offer it to fairgoers for $5 from their prize-winning spot on Main Street directly across from the Pepsi Coliseum. The dish is a sizable portion of vanilla ice cream covered in soybean meal that’s deep-fried in soybean oil and served in a waffle bowl that has also been deep-fried in soy oil. It is then topped with chocolate, caramel and whipped cream.
But wait, there’s more! Here are the four runner-ups…

Speedway Centre for the Arts
@SpdwyArtsCentre
GRAND OPENING! Speedway Centre for the Arts, Th 6/30, 6-8 remarks at 7, corner of 16th & Main Speedway IN, doorprizes, refreshments
The backstory is this: The Speedway Redevelopment Comission approached the Speedway Arts Advisory Council (I’m a member) a couple of months ago and offered the use of the Rosner Building at 16th & Main St (adjacent to IMS). We decided that it looked a lot like a Centre for the Arts-a gallery/performance/arts education space, and with fantastic support from the SRC & the Town of Speedway and its citizens, it has become so.
