Man Arrested Related to July 31, 2021 Homicide Investigation

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide Detectives arrested a man for his alleged involvement in a recent homicide that occurred on the city’s southwest side.

On Saturday, July 31, 2021, just after 4:45 am., IMPD Southwest District officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Coquina Key Drive on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located an adult male, later identified as 24-year-old Kane Baca, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) responded and transported the male, but he was unfortunately later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) assisted in determining the exact cause and manner of death.

IMPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. Based on preliminary information received, detectives were able to identify a suspect. The suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Corey Mirabal, was located and detained with assistance from the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) without further incident on August 2, 2021. Mirabal was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.

One Killed in the the 6200 block of East 44th Place on Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS – Just before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were sent to the 6200 block of East 44th Place reference a person shot. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive person suffering from at least one gunshot wound lying in the front yard of a residence. Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis EMS arrived and pronounced the man dead. The man’s identity will not be released at this time to allow for the appropriate notification of his next-of-kin.

Detectives developed investigative information that led them to near-by house occupied with individuals that could have knowledge of the shooting. Because the high potential for one of those occupants to be armed and because of the specialty skill of the Crisis Negotiation and SWAT teams were deployed. Within minutes of the Crisis Negotiation Team deploying three individuals surrender without further incident. At the time of the release it is believed that a fourth individual may be in the house.

At the time of this release it is not known if any of the individuals are suspects, but detectives have transported the three down to the IMPD Headquarters for questioning. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death after an autopsy has been preformed. Should additional information become available this release may be updated. Man Killed in the 10000 Hawkins Court on Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives are investigating after a man is found shot several times and later dies at the hospital.

Just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the 10000 Hawkins Court on the city’s far east side. When officers arrived, they found a man in a grassy area suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported by Indianapolis EMS to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition where he later died. The man’s name will not be released at this time to allow appropriate notification of his next-of-kin.

Homicide detectives canvassed the area looking for additional information, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine cause and manner of death after an autopsy has been preformed. Detectives have not yet released any reliable suspect information. Should additional information become available this release may be updated. Man Killed in the 6400 block of Park Central Drive West on Friday

INDIANAPOLIS – Just before 6:00 p.m. on Friday (8/11/17) officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the 6400 block of Park Central Drive West reference a person shot. When officers arrived, they found a man critically wounded suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The Indianapolis Fire Department and IEMS arrived and transported the man in critical condition to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi hospital where he later died. The man’s identity will not be released at this time to allow time for his family to be notified.

Detectives are canvassing the area for additional information, and have not yet released any reliable suspect information. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will identify and ensure the victim’s next-of-kin have been notified. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will also determine a cause and manner of death. Southport Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Allan, 38, Shot and Killed On Duty

INDIANAPOLIS – On July 27, 2017, Detectives with the IMPD arrested 28-year-old, Jason Brown on suspicion of murder in the shooting and killing of Lt. Aaron Allan of the Southport Police Department. Lt. Allan was shot and killed in the line of duty while he rendered aid during a crash investigation. The passenger in the vehicle was interviewed as a witness and released by detectives. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will make a charging decision. This is still an active and ongoing investigation.

A Detective close to the investigation has expressed the following thoughts during this emotional investigation:

“I have never seen the support and willingness to come forward that I saw displayed during the investigation of the murder of Lt. Aaron Allen on July 27, 2017.…Many witnesses expressed their support for us as officers and expressed sadness and sympathy at the loss of Lt. Allen. I would like the citizens of Southport Indiana to know that their support for law enforcement officers and willingness to stand together as a community is exceptional. Thank you for making a difficult day a little easier!”

HOMECROFT – The Southport Police Department is mourning the tragic loss of Lieutenant Aaron Allan who was killed in the line of duty after he was shot while trying to help.

July 27, 2017, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Lieutenant (Lt) Aaron Allan with the Southport Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of South Madison and Maynard avenues reference a crash with entrapment. A Homecroft police officer also responded.

As Lt. Allan approached the inverted vehicle to assist, shots were fired by one of the vehicle’s occupants. Lt. Allan was struck by gunfire at least one time. EMS personnel responded and transported Lt. Allan to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. Despite the best life-saving efforts of medical professionals at Eskenazi Hospital Lt. Allan was tragically pronounced dead.

The Homecroft police officer and an off-duty Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy, who had stopped to help, returned fire striking one of the individuals. Both people inside the car were taken to Eskenazi Hospital, one for injuries sustained from being shot, and the other from injuries believe sustained during the crash. Both occupants of the vehicle are being held at Eskenazi detention awaiting further investigation by homicide investigators.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Critical Incident Response Team, is handling the criminal and officer-involved shooting investigations.

Lt. Allan (38) has nearly 6-years of service with the Southport Police Department and over 20 years of law enforcement experience.

Man Found Dead in the 2900 block of N Gladstone Ave

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives are investigating after a man is found dead inside a residence on the city’s east side.

Just after 1:20 p.m. on July 13, 2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 2900 block of N Gladstone Ave on reports of a person shot. Responding officers located an unresponsive male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead on-scene.

Homicide detectives responded and began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the victim can be obtained from the MCCO after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.

Man Killed, Woman Seriously Injured in 1100 block of Medford Ave Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances around a shooting that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured on the city’s west side.

Just after 8 p.m. on July 12, 2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 1100 block of Medford Ave on reports of a person shot. Responding officers arrived and located an unresponsive male and a female suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. EMS personnel responded and rushed both subjects to Eskenazi Hospital. The male subject later died, despite the best efforts of medical staff. The female subject is currently listed in stable condition.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began gathering witness statements. The circumstances around this incident are under investigation. This is believed to be an isolated incident. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. Two males Found Dead in the 2900 block of Caroline Avenue

Just after 11 a.m. on July 12, 2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 2900 block of Caroline Avenue on reports of shots fired. When officers arrived they located one male in a driveway and another male in a home who was unresponsive. Responding officers called for the assistance of Indianapolis EMS personnel who responded and pronounced the two males deceased on scene.

David Rojas, 48, Arrested and Charged with Murder of Jose Garcia, 35

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives have made an arrest for a homicide that occurred on February 18, 2017.

48-year-old David Rojas has been arrested and charged with murder for his alleged involvement in the death of 35-year-old Jose Garcia on 02/18/2017. Rojas is currently in-custody at the Marion County Main Jail. This is an active and ongoing investigation.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives are investigating a death investigation on the city’s northeast side.

Just after 12:30 p.m. on 02.18.17., officers with the IMPD were alerted that there was blood outside of a dumpster. When officers looked, they located blood and observed a body inside of the dumpster. The officers called for the assistance of homicide.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting possible forensic evidence. This case is an active investigation and homicide detectives are still actively gathering information.

Woman Shot & Killed, Boyfriend Wounded, in Overnight Shooting

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives are investigating after a woman was shot and killed and her boyfriend is seriously wounded.

Just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 7200 block of Creekbrook Drive on the report a person had been shot. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive female lying in the street suffering from at least one gunshot wound. They found a second victim (male), inside an apartment, also suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The female victim was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by EMS crews. The male victim was transported by EMS crews to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.

Detectives are canvassing the area for additional information and have not yet released any reliable suspect description or information. The deceased victim’s name is not yet available. Tragically this marks the second deadly shooting in this neighborhood this year (Kobi Walden was killed in May) and detectives are asking anyone with any information to call lead investigator Detective Everman at 317.327.3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or TIPS.
