Tipton County – Today at approximately 10:52 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department, and the Howard County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at the interchange of State Road 931, in which a Valparaiso, IN man, was severely injured.
The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Adam Duffitt revealed that Bradley Mitzgate, 58, Valparaiso, IN, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Sonata southbound on U.S. 31, approaching the interchange for State Road 931. Mitzgate was in the wrong lane to remain on U.S. 31 and made a sweeping right turn to get on the U.S. 31 collector ramp. The Hyundai hit a 2015 Ford F-350 that was pulling a fifth wheel camper. The Ford, driven by Brian Wright, 45, Kokomo, IN, was traveling southbound on U.S. 31 and was on the collector ramp when the Hyundai crashed into it.
Mitzgate was transported from the crash scene, via Life Line Helicopter, to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He sustained life-threatening injuries. Wright was not injured.
This crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to the crash.
