Indiana State Fairgrounds Ends Mask Mandate EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
INDIANA STATE FAIRGROUND MASK POLICY UPDATE
Fuel fans, please note that the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Indiana Farmers Coliseum have made an update to COVID-19 protocols.
Going into effect for tonight’s game (June 2, 2021)
Governor Holcomb announced last week new guidance around COVID-19 protocols for the State. Given this new guidance, masks will no longer be required while visiting the Indiana State Fairgrounds and the Indiana Farmers Coliseum for fully vaccinated individuals. If you are not vaccinated, all guests are encouraged to wear a mask and to follow CDC guidelines on whether and when wearing a face covering is warranted.
A LITTLE TOO LATE
Governor Holcomb should have done this PRIOR to the Indy 500, and after seeing the vast majority of race fans defy Mayor Hogsett’s mask mandate, INCLUDING Dr. Caine at one point while NOT eating or drinking, I think it was clear that the people have spoken! Enforce REAL LAWS then get back with us. We’re done.
DEAR JOE, TAKE THIS MASK AND SHOVE IT!
Open everything up already. We’re done with this BS. pic.twitter.com/R0Bm69P6M5
— Ken Avidor (@Avidor) June 2, 2021
That about sums it up pretty well.
Dear Joe, take this mask and shove it!

Indy Fuel Anthem Singer Eric Wickens Has Passed Away
Statement from the Indy Fuel on the passing of Eric Wickens:
With heavy hearts, the Indy Fuel organization mourns the loss of our dear friend and anthem singer Eric Wickens. Over the last three seasons Eric has shared his tremendous talent with countless fans, staff members and players at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, and his friendly demeanor, passion for his craft, and his unforgettable voice will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to Eric’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
Eric’s family has established the Eric Wickens Memorial Fund, which will help provide for his son’s college education. Donations can be made at any local Huntington Bank branch or via mail to Huntington Bank, 11640 Olio Road, Fishers, IN 46037.
Eric is reported to have passed away at the age of 48 from a sudden heart attack on August 12 after performing the national anthem prior to a baseball game.
Indy Fuel Reveal 2016 Preseason Schedule
The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, announced their 2016 preseason schedule Thursday. The Fuel will meet the Fort Wayne Komets in a home-and-home exhibition doubleheader; starting on Friday, October 7 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, before shifting to Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Saturday, October 8. Friday’s game in Fort Wayne is scheduled for an 8 p.m. puck drop, while Saturday’s contest in Indy is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
All in attendance at Saturday’s game between the two in-state rivals will receive a 2016-17 Fuel magnet schedule. Indy’s preseason finale will be capped off with a post-game autograph session in the Indiana Farmers Coliseum lobby with the entire team. Tickets for the exhibition showdown are included in all Full-Season, Half-Season, and 9-Game Ticket Plans, and will be just $10 for the general public.
Announcements will be made in the coming weeks with more information regarding preseason and 2016-17 single game tickets, as well as the Fuel’s full promotional schedule for their third season at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
The organization also announced Thursday the addition of Terry Ficorelli as the club’s new Director of Media Relations. A familiar voice to Indiana hockey fans, Ficorelli brings over 30 years and 3,500 games of play-by-play experience to the Fuel broadcast booth, where he will provide the call for all 72 games this season. The Detroit native spent the last six seasons in Evansville – serving as the Vice President of Communications, Broadcasting and Marketing for the CHL and ECHL IceMen from 2010-2014, before holding the same position with the NA3HL’s Evansville Thunderbolts in 2015-16.
Prior to arriving in Indiana, Ficorelli spent 15 years in Muskegon, Mich. manning the microphone for the UHL Fury and the IHL Lumberjacks, providing the call for four Fury championships in a six-year span from 1999-2005. In addition to the team success during his time in Muskegon, “Fic” became the first person to win both UHL Broadcaster of the Year and Public Relations Director of the Year honors twice.

Indy Fuel join ECHL’s Central Division
The ECHL announced the new divisional alignment for the 2016-17 season, along with a new format for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Within the new league alignment, the Fuel join the Western Conference’s Central Division, alongside the Fort Wayne Komets, Kalamazoo Wings, Quad City Mallards, Toledo Walleye, Tulsa Oilers and Wichita Thunder.
As approved by the Board of Governors, the Conference and Divisional alignment for the 2016-17 Season will be as follows:
Eastern Conference
North Division:
Adirondack Thunder, Brampton Beast, Elmira Jackals, Manchester Monarchs, Reading Royals, Wheeling Nailers
South Division:
Atlanta Gladiators, Cincinnati Cyclones, Florida Everblades, Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Norfolk Admirals, Orlando Solar Bears, South Carolina Stingrays
Western Conference
Central Division
: Fort Wayne Komets, Indy Fuel, Kalamazoo Wings, Quad City Mallards, Toledo Walleye, Tulsa Oilers, Wichita Thunder
Mountain Division
: Alaska Aces, Allen Americans, Colorado Eagles, Idaho Steelheads, Missouri Mavericks, Rapid City Rush, Utah Grizzlies
With the ECHL’s 2016-17 schedule remaining the same, the Fuel will play a total of 33 of their 72 games within the new-look Central Division. Indy will meet Quad City 10 times (6 home, 4 road), Fort Wayne nine times (5 home, 4 road), Toledo five times (2 home, 3 road), Kalamazoo four times (2 home, 2 road), Tulsa four times (2 home, 2 road) and Wichita once on the road. Twenty-two of Indy’s final 36 games will be against Central opponents.
The first two rounds of the Kelly Cup Playoffs will be played entirely within the division, with the division winner playing the fourth-place finisher and the second-place team meeting the third-place team in the Division Semifinals.
The winners of each series will meet in the Division Finals, leading to the Conference Finals and Kelly Cup Finals. The new format will allow most teams to have a better chance of playing traditional rivals in the first two rounds of the playoffs, and to allow for more economical travel.
