Indianapolis Christmas Tree Recycling Runs Through January 31, 2023
The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) and Indy Parks will once again begin accepting real Christmas trees for mulching at multiple drop-off locations in public parks throughout the city from Sunday, December 25, 2022, through Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
Marion County residents are encouraged to drop off their real trees at these seven different locations so they may be mulched into soil blends for a second life. Dead trees in homes pose a fire hazard, so those without the ability to compost or mulch trees on their property have the opportunity to drop them off at one of the below sites.
Any and all tree stands, skirts, ornaments, tinsel, lights, garland, popcorn, stowaways, and all other decorative materials MUST be removed prior to drop off.
Trees should be dropped off only at the specially designated area within the park, and only between dawn and dusk. Please check the list carefully as the selected park locations vary from year-to-year and the site you brought your tree to last year may no longer be a site. Dropping off trees at locations not listed below is considered illegal dumping and is punishable by fines of up to $3,000.
Again, this service is provided for Marion County residents ONLY and is not offered for commercial use.
2022-23 Indianapolis Christmas Tree Mulching Locations
Drop-off locations are as follows:
- Ellenberger Park | 5301 E. St. Clair Street | Northeast corner by the pool
- Garfield Park | 2432 Conservatory Drive | in front of the MacAllister Amphitheater
- Northwestway Park | 5253 W. 62nd Street | to the left of the entrance
- Perry Park | 451 E. Stop 11 Road | to the left of the Stop 11 main entrance
- Riverside Park | 2420 East Riverside Drive | by the basketball court
- Sahm Park | 6801 E. 91st Street | near the recycling bins
- Riverwood Park | 7201 Crittenden Avenue
Each year, thousands of trees are repurposed through this city service. Residents with broken strings of lights are encouraged to properly recycle them via ToxDrop or RecycleForce.

Indianapolis Electronics Recycling at Brookside Park Thursday, November 10, 2022
The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability and local nonprofit RecycleForce will host an electronics recycling (“E-cycle”) event for Marion County community members today, Thursday, November 10, at Brookside Park (3500 Brookside Parkway S Drive) from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.Properly disposing of broken, outdated, and/or unused electronics is important because Indiana’s Electronic Waste Law prohibits households, small businesses, and schools from disposing of electronic waste in the trash.
On-site staff will direct traffic, and motorists should remain in their vehicles. Non-electronic materials will not be accepted at this event.
The City is again partnering with the local nonprofit RecycleForce for the event. RecycleForce reduces crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities while improving the environment through electronics recycling.
As a general rule of thumb, acceptable electronics include anything with a cord attached, plus the following:
- Cell phones
- Circuit boards
- Computers/Laptops
- External disk drives
- External tape drive
- Gaming systems and accessories
- Hair dryers and styling irons
- Hard drives
- Joy sticks
- Keyboards
- Microphones
- Microwaves
- Modems
- Monitors
- Mouse
- PC cards

Led by staff from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works environmental resources management division, this is the fourth special electronics recycling event offered in 2022. Those interested but unable to attend are reminded that they can recycle unwanted electronics on Saturdays at ToxDrop sites across the county. The regular ToxDrop times and locations can be found online.

Spring Cleaning Electronics Recycling at Krannert Park Saturday, April 23
The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability (Sustain Indy) and RecycleForce will host an electronics recycling (“E-cycle”) event this Saturday, April 23 at Krannert Park (605 S High School Road) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Led by staff from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works – Environmental Resources Management team, this is the second special recycling event focused on electronics offered thus far in 2022. A similar event in January saw 600 residents bring a total of 30 tons of recyclables to Garfield Park for disposal.
The spring is a popular time for cleaning out spaces in your home. Garages, basements, and drawers are often go-to areas for old electronics that no longer work. In partnership with RecycleForce, a local non-for-profit organization that reduces crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities while improving the environment through electronics recycling, the City invites all Marion County residents to recycle outdated or broken electronics at this special E-cycle event, so that these electronics may be properly recycled.
There is no cost for dropping off materials to be recycled. As a general rule, acceptable electronics include anything with a cord attached, plus the items listed at the bottom of this release. Indiana’s Electronic Waste law prohibits households, small businesses, and schools from disposing of electronic waste in the trash; this is a great opportunity for Marion County residents to properly recycle their waste and take care of the earth. Non-electronic materials will not be accepted during this event.
On-site staff will direct traffic at the event, and motorists should remain in their vehicles. Those interested but unable to attend can recycle unwanted electronics on Saturdays at ToxDrop sites across the county.
