Career Fair Offers Options Beyond Four-Year College Degree

November 9, 2016 by Naptown Buzz

The Sheridan Youth Assistance Program will host its first annual career and job fair on Thursday, December 8, 2016 in the Sheridan High School Gymnasium. Students in grades 8 through 10 from Sheridan, Hamilton Heights, Tipton, and Clinton Central will attend from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Upperclassman and adults are invited to attend from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The hands-on, interactive career fair will highlight skilled trades, advanced manufacturing, the hospitality industry, agriculture, human services, health care, transportation, construction and information technology.

“We believe offering some career alternatives to the traditional four-year college degree is imperative to the future of some of these students,” said Lisa Samuels, Sheridan Early Intervention Advocate. “We want to show them there are great career choices that they may not have thought about but would provide a livable wage as well as fill a need in our community.”

More than 500 students from area schools are expected to attend the free event at Sheridan High School, located at 24185 Hinesley Road. Local businesses interested in participating as a vendor can visit www.youthassistance.org/sheridan-news to register.
