Sullivan County – This morning around 7:45, Indiana State Police and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing complaint in the area of 5828 West State Road 58. The subsequent investigation revealed the trespasser was wanted on a warrant.
A property owner called via 911 to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office reporting a male trespassing on his property and was requesting law enforcement assistance. Master Trooper Tom Hanks and Sullivan County Deputy Lieutenant Bill Snead responded. When Deputy Snead arrived, the property owner stated the suspect had left the area as a passenger in a silver pickup. Moments later, Master Trooper Hanks spotted a vehicle matching the description just east of the original complaint and stopped the truck. The passenger was identified as 27-year-old Paul McCormick of Carlisle, IN. A routine check revealed McCormick was wanted on a warrant for Parole Violation (Arson) out of Cumberland County, Illinois. He was taken into custody without incident and incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail.
There appeared to be no legitimate reason for McCormick to be on the owner’s property and he did not have permission to enter the property.
Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
